Heritage Open Days & Castlegate Festival

Due to essential on-site safety works overrunning, the building is unfortunately not yet ready to welcome visitors safely, so we will no longer be able to open 2 Haymarket for Heritage Open Days or the Castlegate Festival this September.

Following S1 Artspace’s move to the city centre last year, join us from 19–20 September to mark Heritage Open Days and the Castlegate Festival 2025.

Built in 1871, this Grade II listed landmark stands at the gateway to Sheffield’s historic Castlegate. Originally built to serve as Sheffield’s first General Post Office, it later became the Sheffield Stock Exchange and, more recently, the Yorkshire Bank. Today, it is S1 Artspace’s new and permanent home.

Over the next two years, the building will gradually be reopened to the public and spaces will become occupied as we complete improvements to create a fully accessible, fit-for-purpose arts venue.
